Procrastination

Right, that’s it. Housework done. Now it’s my time, time for some writing. Two hours of sheer pleasure. Right let’s turn the thing on and set the timer.

Oh no! It’s updating.

I know, I’ll look on my iPad at my emails while I’m waiting. There, that’s two hundred and seven deleted, six filed and four answered.

Oh my god, look at the time. Okay, where are my headphones. Right, what shall I listen to? Ludovico Einaudi or Loreena McKennitt.

Loreena today I think, I wonder if she’s got anything new? Ah look at that, The Mask and the Mirror, I’ll have that.

Right, where was I? Hello little creature, you want up on mummy’s knee? Come on then. No, don’t scrabble you can sit here beside me. Ouch! No Inca, don’t get jealous, Tic Tac’s only sitting beside me. What you want to play tuggers, no don’t poke me with it.

Right, that’s it, go and lie down, all of you.

Now, back to work. Where’s that note I did in the night? Ah, there it is, no that’s not it. Oh God, look at the state of this desk, I’m sure I put it here somewhere.

Right, that’s the desk tidied at last: folders in one place, notepads in another, and pens and pencils all checked out ready.

Now let’s start that chapter where Serin comes round and finds herself captured by D’Ruja.

Chapter 2

The restraints are tight, cutting wrists, ankles and chest. There is a blinding white glare. A barely audible hum vibrates every bone, every tooth. She gives an involuntary moan.

Hello Serin, nice to see you again. His voice chilling and quiet in her head.

No…

What’s that noise? No, it’s the timer.
